My thoughts on Twitter dot com.

Twitter is...an oddity of the web, though a very popular one. It's become a little nation of its own, to put it simply. It has also become a hellsite.

In late 2018, many Tumblr users migrated to Twitter due to the Tumblr porn ban. Since then, Twitter has become a lot like Tumblr - in the sense that most of the content on Twitter nowadays hits Tumblr levels of brainrot. Do not get me wrong, there is some good content on there; you just have to search a little.

Aside from its userbase, Twitter itself has changed. It went from being a place where you can express yourself freely (2006-2015) to a censorship crazed, suspension-happy platform (2017-present). You can no longer express yourself in a visual way other than posting your art; first, Twitter removed the option of having a GIF as your profile picture, then backgrounds, and then theme colours. You are now limited to a colour palette that only you will see - and you don't even get to choose your own colours.

The layout change is also something that has ruined Twitter for many people. Going from square profile pictures to an overall more rounded layout was completely unnecessary. They did this to make Twitter "more accessible", but it honestly was less accessible when it first launched. Just like all modern websites nowadays, it has gone from allowing people to do whatever they wanted and allowing them to personalise their profile to a place with intrusive ads and collection of data that most people would be uncomfortable with others collecting. Twitter ended up shooting itself in the foot with its completely useless features that have been ripped off from other websites (see "Fleets" and "Spaces", so basically just stories and voice chatting).

Not only that, but since 2018, people had to worry about what they say, since Twitter would ban people for saying words "Twitter", "hate", and even thank you. This sadly hasn't changed, considering that people are getting their accounts suspended for saying something that Twitter thinks is against their guidelines.

This page is a work in progress.
